Senate Resolution 106 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 106 BY SCHULTZ , McCLINTOCK , and COSTELLO A Resolution commemorating St. Patrick’s Day and 1 celebrating the United States’ relationship with 2 Ireland. 3 WHEREAS, each year on March 17, everyone, whether 4 Irish through birth, heritage, culture, or affinity, 5 joins in celebrating Ireland’s values, heritage, and 6 culture; and 7 WHEREAS, March 17 is also a day to recall the 8 story of St. Patrick and the values that he embodied, 9 including those of learning, solidarity, and justice, 10 and to commit to preserving democratic values, 11 promoting peace, and treating fellow humans with 12 dignity, kindness, care, and compassion; and 13 WHEREAS, this year the Northern Ireland Assembly 14 has been reactivated, an important step for all those 15 who wish to see an effective system of power sharing, 16 one that offers the best prospects for the government 17 to serve all of the people and to meet their differing 18 needs; and 19 WHEREAS, the relationship between Ireland and the 20 United States is a shining example of how historical 21 connections, cultural affinities, and shared values 22 can create a foundation for solidarity, enduring 23 partnership, and mutual prosperity; and 24 WHEREAS, this year marks the 100th anniversary of 25 the United States formally opening diplomatic relations 26 with Ireland; and 27 WHEREAS, legislators from Iowa were invited to 28 -1- LSB 6362XS (2) 90 sc/jm 1/ 2
S.R. 106 attend the recognition of the 25th anniversary of the 1 Good Friday Agreement in Ireland in 2023 and several 2 participated; and 3 WHEREAS, the Economic Development Authority of this 4 state and the government of Ireland are working to 5 expand trade relations between Iowa and Ireland; NOW 6 THEREFORE, 7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 8 commemorates and celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, 9 recognizes the cultural significance of Irish 10 immigration to the United States, and honors the 11 friendship between the United States and Ireland, which 12 has remained unbroken across so many generations. 13 -2- LSB 6362XS (2) 90 sc/jm 2/ 2
