Section
1.
MEDICATION
POLICIES
FOR
TRANSFERRING
PRISONERS
1
AND
INMATES.
The
department
of
corrections
shall
adopt
rules
2
pursuant
to
chapter
17A
to
include
in
medication
procedures
3
established
for
facilities
under
the
purview
of
the
department
4
of
corrections
and
facilities
under
the
purview
of
a
county
5
sheriff
pursuant
to
chapters
356
and
356A,
a
provision
that
6
if
a
prisoner
or
inmate
is
transferred
to
another
facility
7
under
the
purview
of
the
department
of
corrections
or
under
the
8
purview
of
a
county
sheriff
pursuant
to
chapter
356
or
356A,
9
the
prescription
medication
of
the
inmate
or
prisoner
shall
be
10
transferred
at
the
time
the
inmate
or
prisoner
is
transferred
11
to
the
subsequent
facility
to
avoid
interruption
in,
and
to
12
support,
medication
adherence.
The
rules
shall
provide
for
13
expeditious
review
of
the
prisoner’s
or
inmate’s
prescription
14
medications
by
the
licensed
prescriber
designated
for
the
15
subsequent
facility
in
order
to
continue
the
prisoner’s
or
16
inmate’s
medication
treatment
following
such
transfer.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
medication
policies
for
transferring
21
prisoners
and
inmates.
The
bill
requires
the
department
22
of
corrections
to
adopt
administrative
rules
to
include
in
23
medication
procedures
established
for
facilities
under
the
24
purview
of
the
department
of
corrections
and
facilities
25
under
the
purview
of
a
county
sheriff,
a
provision
that
if
a
26
prisoner
or
inmate
is
transferred
to
another
facility
under
27
the
purview
of
the
department
of
corrections
or
a
county
28
sheriff,
the
prescription
medication
of
the
inmate
or
prisoner
29
shall
be
transferred
at
the
time
the
inmate
or
prisoner
is
30
transferred
to
the
subsequent
facility
to
avoid
interruption

in,
and
to
support,
medication
adherence.
The
rules
shall
also

provide
for
