SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

encouraging state departments to conduct business with sustainable business corporations and further the promotion of sustainable business corporations in hawaii.

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Legislature demonstrated support for businesses that operate in a socially and environmentally sustainable manner by establishing sustainable business corporations in Act 209, Session Laws of Hawaii 2011; and

 

     WHEREAS, sustainable business corporations voluntarily meet higher standards of corporate purpose, accountability, and transparency; and

 

     WHEREAS, the corporate purpose for sustainable business corporations is to create a public benefit by positively impacting society and the environment; and

 

     WHEREAS, sustainable business corporations consider the impact of their decisions not only on shareholders but also on workers, the community, and the environment; and

 

     WHEREAS, state departments and socially responsible businesses share the goal of bettering Hawaii, both its residents and its cherished environment; and

 

     WHEREAS, encouraging private enterprises to engage with the community and to direct their corporate vision toward issues other than profit motives stimulates innovation in the business and social arenas; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that state departments are encouraged to conduct business with sustainable business corporations and further the promotion of sustainable business corporations in Hawaii; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor; Comptroller; Chairperson of the Board of Agriculture; Attorney General; Director of Finance; Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism; Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs; Adjutant General; Superintendent of Education; Chairperson of the Hawaiian Homes Commission; Director of Health; Director of Human Resources Development; Director of Human Services; Director of Labor and Industrial Relations; Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources; Director of Public Safety; Director of Taxation; Director of Transportation; Chairperson of the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii; and President of the Sustainability Association of Hawaii.
