SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

DESIGNATING JANUARY 29, 2012, AS THOMAS PAINE DAY in hawaii.

 

 


     WHEREAS, Thomas Paine was a leader of the American Revolution, as well as one of the founding fathers of this nation along with George Washington, James Madison, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson; and

 

     WHEREAS, Thomas Paine crystallized the decision of the colonies to seek independence in his famous work "Common Sense"; and

 

     WHEREAS, Thomas Paine supported the American Revolution through personal service, donations of his time and money, and his widely recognized writings, including the "Crisis" papers; and

 

     WHEREAS, Thomas Paine was the first to promote universal and equal education for both sexes, equality for women, religious freedom, and a League of Nations; and

 

     WHEREAS, Thomas Paine's life and work continue to inspire those who seek liberty and democracy all over the world; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, the House of Representatives concurring, that January 29, 2012, be designated Thomas Paine Day in Hawaii, in honor of Thomas Paine's contributions to liberty and his accomplishments, which endure today; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the people of Hawaii are encouraged to honor Thomas Paine and his indelible contributions to our nation on Thomas Paine Day in Hawaii; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor and Thomas Paine Friends, Inc.
