A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to forestry.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 183, part II, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§183-    Hawaiian home lands for forestry.  The department of Hawaiian home lands may from time to time set aside Hawaiian home lands for the forestry of koa or other native trees.  The department of Hawaiian home lands may enter into one or more public-private partnerships to develop and implement a forestry plan for koa or other native trees.  All the proceeds from the sale of the harvested koa or native trees shall be deposited into the Hawaiian home lands trust fund and expended by the department of Hawaiian home lands for purposes consistent with the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920, as amended."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

Description:

Provides that DHHL may utilize Hawaiian home lands for the forestry of koa or native trees.  Allows DHHL to enter into public-private partnerships to implement the forestry plan.  Requires the proceeds from the forestry plan to be deposited into the Hawaiian home lands trust fund.
