A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to broadband.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2022-2023 to expand access to broadband in the State, including the installation of broadband infrastructure, such as dark fiber telecommunication cables; provided that priority is given to underserved and unserved areas, as defined in section 206R-1, Hawaii Revised Statutes; provided further that a wireless provider, as defined in section 206N-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, may bid to lease state-owned dark fiber telecommunication cables to provide broadband service, as defined in section 440J-1, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of accounting and general services for the purposes of this Act.


     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2022.
