A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO SCHOOLS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part VI, subpart A to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A‑    School vending machines; beverages.  Beverage selections from school vending machines that are available to students shall contain only healthy beverages as deemed appropriate by the department.

     For the purposes of this section, "vending machine" means any self-service device offered for public use which, upon insertion of a coin, token, or other form of payment, dispenses unit servings of food or beverage either in bulk or in package, without the necessity of replenishing the device between each dispensation."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval and shall apply to contracts for vending services executed or renewed on or after that date.
