A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to taxation.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that in order to make informed decisions, policy makers require information regarding tax revenue by island rather than by tax district, which is organized according to county divisions.

     The purpose of this Act is to require the department of taxation to annually report to the legislature the total tax revenue collected by island during the previous tax year.

     SECTION 2.  Section 231-3.4, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

     "(a)  The department of taxation shall publish reports on the following:

     (1)  Hawaii income patterns--individuals;

     (2)  Hawaii income patterns--corporations, proprietorships, and partnerships; [and]

     (3)  Tax credits[.]; and

     (4)  The previous tax year's tax revenues by island; provided that the department shall annually report this information to the legislature no later than March 1 of each year.

The department shall make each of these reports available in both paper form and commonly accessible electronic forms for a reasonable fee."

     SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.
