A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to common law.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 1-19, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

     "§1-19  "Person", "others", "any", etc.  The word "person", or words importing persons, for instance, "another", "others", "any", "anyone", "anybody", and the like, [signify not only individuals, but] mean an individual human being of any age, sex, or nationality; provided that the term does not include huis, partnerships, corporations, firms, associations, societies, communities, assemblies, [inhabitants of a district, or neighborhood, or persons known or unknown, and the public generally, where it appears, from the subject matter, the sense and connection in which such words are used, that such construction is intended.] or any other form of business or legal entity."

     SECTION 2.  This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun before its effective date.

     SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
