A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE WAIANAE COAST COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CENTER

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 

     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that it costs the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center $1,800,000 to operate its emergency services between the hours of midnight to 8:00 a.m., three hundred and sixty-five days a year.  With recent budget cuts due to the economic downturn, the health center is unable to acquire sufficient funding to cover the financial shortfall.

     The legislature further finds that additional funding is needed to allow the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center to continue to faithfully provide the residents of the Waianae coast with twenty-four hour emergency room services.

     The purpose of this Act is to assist the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center in providing twenty-four hour emergency room services to the residents of the Waianae coast.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2009-2010 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2010-2011, as a grant pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, for emergency services at Waianae coast comprehensive health center.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2099.
