A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

Relating to CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE SEVENTEENTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The director of finance is authorized to issue general obligation bonds in the sum of $44,515,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary, and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary is appropriated for fiscal year 2017-2018 for the purpose of financing capital improvement projects for the seventeenth senatorial district, as follows:

1.   August Ahrens elementary school

A.   Design of a new classroom building; ground and site improvements; equipment and appurtenances.

              Design                                 $ 2,000,000

                   Total funding                     $ 2,000,000

B.   Resurface and site improvements of basketball court and creation of a multisport playing surface; ground and site improvements; equipment; and appurtenances.

                   Total funding                     $   240,000

2.   Waipahu intermediate school

A.   Planning, design, and construction of new classroom building; ground and site improvements; equipment and appurtenances.

                   Total funding                     $22,000,000

B.   Design and construction for additional multi-purpose play courts; ground and site improvements; equipment and appurtenances.

                   Total funding                     $ 3,000,000

3.   Palisades elementary school

A.   Planning, design, and construction of school-wide electrical upgrade; ground and site improvements; equipment and appurtenances.

              Planning                               $   200,000

               Design                            200,000

              Construction                           1,600,000

                   Total funding                     $ 2,000,000

4.   Waipahu elementary school

A.   Design for cafeteria and kitchen renovation, expansion, and improvements.

              Design                                 $   275,000

                   Total funding                     $   275,000

5.   Waipahu high school

A.   Construction and equipment for a new classroom building; ground and site improvements; equipment and appurtenances.

                   Total funding                     $15,000,000

     SECTION 2.  The appropriation made for the capital improvement projects authorized by this Act shall not lapse at the end of the fiscal year for which the appropriation is made; provided that all moneys from the appropriation that are unencumbered as of June 30, 2020, shall lapse as of that date.

     SECTION 3.  The sums appropriated for the respective capital improvement projects set forth in section 1 shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2017.
