THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

1018

TWENTY-FIFTH LEGISLATURE, 2009

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR COUNTY OF HAWAII MASS TRANSIT.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to expand public transportation in the county of Hawaii.  The residents of the county face difficult challenges in commuting for work, school, and health and recreational purposes due in part to the long distances they must travel to their destinations, fuel costs, and lack of transportation alternatives.  The appropriation in this Act would assist the county of Hawaii to purchase six additional forty-foot buses and help with construction of a transit baseyard including a maintenance and repair facility and fueling station.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $4,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2009-2010, as a grant‑in‑aid to the county of Hawaii, for the purposes of this Act.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the county of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2009.
