STATE OF HAWAII

 

 

 

 

 

HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the city and county of honolulu to lease the ewa villages MANSION and CEMETERY to the ewa historical society to protect, preserve, and restore these historical places.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Ewa Villages was a symbol of the early plantation lifestyle in the State; and

 

     WHEREAS, the villages were a pioneer as a planned community development for plantation managers and workers; and

 

     WHEREAS, in the heart of the Eva Villages lies "historical row" consisting of Renton Road, the Ewa Villages Manager's Mansion, the mill, and historical churches; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Ewa Villages Manager's Mansion has been left vacant and unattended and is ridden with termites and mice; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Ewa Cemetery has not been active for nearly fifty years and without a custodian, will likely be sold and desecrated, thus destroying its historical significance forever; and

 

     WHEREAS, the condition of the Ewa Villages Manager's Mansion and Ewa Cemetery remain eyesores to the community instead of the jewels that they once were; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body urges the City and County of Honolulu to lease the Ewa Villages Mansion and Ewa Cemetery to the Ewa Historical Society, or to any credible non-profit organization, for the purpose of protecting, preserving, and restoring these historical places; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor and Council Chairperson of the City and County of Honolulu and the President of the Ewa Historical Society.
