HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING LE JARDIN ACADEMY ON THE CELEBRATION OF ITS fiftieth ANNIVERSARY.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy has provided Hawai‘i students and their families with a nurturing, vigorous learning community for over fifty years in the windward Oahu community of Kailua; and

 

     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy was founded in 1961 as a small preschool known as Le Jardin d'Enfants (The Garden of Children) at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kailua by Madame Henriette D. Neal, a native of France, and Nona Springel, who provided special instruction in the French language; and

 

     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy has continued to grow and expand, and now includes preschool through high school education, forty-eight classrooms, state-of-the-art computer laboratories, two libraries, two music and foreign language rooms, two sports fields, pool, and gymnasium on the site of the former Kailua Drive-in overlooking the Kawainui wetlands; and

 

     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy is now an authorized International Baccalaureate World School which offers the best in 21st Century education by emphasizing critical thinking, active learning, and creative problem solving; and

 

     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy is committed to educational rigor and relevance through the International Baccalaureate program which encourages students and teachers to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, caring, balanced, and reflective; and

 

     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy will soon be the only school in Hawai‘i offering International Baccalaureate programs from preschool through high school; and

 

     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy's dedicated staff and faculty encourage and inspire students to aspire to educational excellence, while encouraging a lifetime commitment to the arts, athletics, and community involvement; and

 

     WHEREAS, Le Jardin Academy has successfully accomplished its mission of partnering with families to "develop knowledgeable, responsible and caring young people of character who help create a more peaceful and sustainable world through understanding, stewardship and respect"; now, therefore;

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-Sixth Legislature of the State of Hawai‘i, Regular Session of 2011, that this body hereby congratulates, honors, and commends Le Jardin Academy for fifty years of service and dedication to the people of Hawai‘i.
