STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE RESOLUTION

commending and CONGRATULATING THE 2022 U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLs.

WHEREAS, as a National Blue Ribbon awardee in 2005 and 2012, HŌKŪLANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL solidified its merit as a top performing school, receiving the honor for the third time as a 2022 awardee by meeting the performance award criteria for Exemplary High Performing schools, ranking in the top 15 percent of Hawai�i schools in achievement, and outpacing other performance averages statewide by 12 percentage points in English Language Arts and 30 percentage points in Math; and

WHEREAS, HŌKŪLANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is committed to raising effective problem solvers who are curious and engaged in learning and prioritizes a balanced approach to education through personalized support instruction, timely intervention both individually and in small groups, and specialized learning experiences, such as social-emotional learning, coding, and an art integration school of Spanish and Hawaiiana; and

WHEREAS, HŌKŪLANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL focuses on strategically addressing the developing needs of its students by leveraging grant initiatives with programs like ArtBento and Artists in Schools, in order to embed creative and expressive opportunities for students to engage in core curricular standards; and

WHEREAS, as a National Blue Ribbon School awardee in 1986, 2003, and 2006, NU�UANU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL solidified its merit as a consistently top performing school, proudly earning the honor for a fourth time as a 2022 awardee by exceeding statewide averages in English Language Arts by 12 percentage points and in Math by 14 percentage points, ranking in the top 15 percent in achievement; and

WHEREAS, all educators at NU�UANU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL are fully licensed, having an average of 16 years of teaching experience, and have demonstrated their commitment to the school by being on staff for an average of 16.5 years; and

WHEREAS, NU�UANU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL attributes its academic success to a diverse range of enrichment programs, including specialized learning experiences in performing arts, technology, and social-emotional learning, and a variety of extra-curricular activities established through partnerships with community organizations, such as its parent organization, �Aikane o Nu�uanu, which is credited with fostering a strong school community culture through coordination of school-wide events, including campus beautification, pumpkin carving night, movie night, and family fun night; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawai�i, Regular Session of 2023, that this body hereby commends and congratulates HŌKŪLANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and NU�UANU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL for being recognized as 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools and extends to the school communities its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
