HOUSE RESOLUTION
REquesting the Department of health to issue certificates of birth, marriage, divorce, OR death CONTAINING names in the hawaiian language as accurately and timely as certificates containing names that are not in the hawaiian language.
WHEREAS, the Hawaiian language is one of the official languages of the State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Health has received funding for the modernization and automation of the vital statistics system of the State; and
WHEREAS, members of the community have expressed concern that the Department of Health takes a longer time to process vital records of persons with Hawaiian-language names due to the names' length and punctuation; and
WHEREAS, all members of the community deserve to have their vital records accurately and timely processed; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that the Department of Health is requested to issue certificates of birth, marriage, divorce, or death containing names in the Hawaiian language as accurately and within the same time frame as certificates containing names that are not in the Hawaiian language; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Health and the Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
