HOUSE RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING Abenel "TIGER" WONG FOR HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE STATE OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS, Mr. Abenel Makini "Tiger" Wong was born on May 9, 1919 in Kohala, island of Hawai‘i. At the age of 14 he left the Big Island to move to Oahu on a cattle boat named “Moi” to start many of his adventures; and
WHEREAS, on June 6, 1944, 13,100 paratroopers of the U.S. 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne Divisions made night parachute drops onto Normandy early on D-Day, followed by 3,937 glider troops. Mr. Tiger Wong was among those 3,937 glider troops, and during this battle he lost the tail of his glider and was injured and flown to hospital in Buffalo, New York and later transferred back to Tripler General Hospital in Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, while waiting for an honorable disability discharge, Mr. Tiger Wong re-enlisted to fight in the Korean War in the 5th Ranger Outfit. It was in Korean War where he suffered both gunshot and knife wounds, even wounded, he also saved another fellow soldier who lost both of his legs during the battle; and
WHEREAS, for Mr. Tiger Wong's service he earned two purple hearts; and
WHEREAS, in 1961 Mr. Tiger Wong joined the Honolulu Police Department, solo bike division. Then in 1963 he became a crane operator for Hawaiian Dredging for 27 years; and
WHEREAS, throughout Mr. Tiger Wong 's life he has been in numerous motorcycle clubs including, Hells Angels, Aliis, Devils Breed, Keolamana, and Koa Puna. He was also founder of motorcycle club known as Worldwide Motorcycle Club; and
WHEREAS, some may also remember Mr. Tiger Wong served as grand marshal for Street Bikers United Oahu Chapter’s 40th Annual Hawaii Toy Run Parade on December 6, 2014 to support U.S. Marines’ Annual Toys for Tots campaign. He was also grand marshal for the Waimanalo Christmas Parade in 2014; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, hereby commends and applauds the contribution of Tiger Wong, and extends its warmest Aloha and best wishes for success, happiness and his future endeavors.
