HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

HONORING THE HAWAII STATE HONOREES AND DISTINGUISHED FINALISTS FOR THE 2015 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

 

     WHEREAS, Prudential Financial has been a financial service leader committed to helping individual and institutional customers grow and protect their wealth through a variety of products and services, including life insurance, annuities, retirement-related services, mutual funds, and investment management; and

 

     WHEREAS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals is the leading organization of, and national voice for, middle and high school principals, assistant principals, and all other school leaders from across the United States, and aims to connect and engage school leaders through advocacy, research, and education with the intent to ensure the success of each student and promote strong school leadership practices through the design and delivery of high quality professional learning experiences; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represents the United States' largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service; and

 

     WHEREAS, since the program's inception in 1995, more than 100,000 young volunteers have been honored at the local, state, and national level; and

 

     WHEREAS, the program chooses one honoree from the middle school and high school levels from each state and the District of Columbia for their hard work and dedication to volunteering; and

 

     WHEREAS, all public and private middle schools and high schools in the country, as well as all Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross chapters, Young Men's Christian Associations, and HandsOn Network affiliates were eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

 

     WHEREAS, the local honorees are then reviewed by an independent judging panel, which selects State Honorees and Distinguished Finalists based on criteria including personal initiative, effort, impact, and personal growth; and

 

     WHEREAS, in May 2015, ten of the State Honorees – five at the middle school level and five at the high school level – will be named America's top youth volunteers of 2015 at our nation's capital in Washington, D.C.; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, that this body hereby congratulates and honors Kaytlen Akau, of Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, and Alexandra Skrocki, of Admiral Arthur W. Radford High School, on their recognition as the Hawaii State Honorees for the 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for their altruistic actions and their demonstration of peer leadership and exemplary community spirit, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes as they continue on to the national competition; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body also congratulates and honors Jasmine Doan, of Seabury Hall School, and Jillian Madanay, of Lutheran High School of Hawaii, on being named as the Hawaii Distinguished Finalists for the 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for their impressive community service activities and for demonstrating community pride; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Kaytlen Akau, Alexandra Skrocki, Jasmine Doan, Jillian Madanay, the Principal of Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, the Principal of Admiral Arthur W. Radford High School, the Headmaster of Seabury Hall School, the Headmaster of Lutheran High School of Hawaii, the Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Financial, Inc., and the President of the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
