HOUSE RESOLUTION
Congratulating Mahina Anguay AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2016 MASAYUKI TOKIOKA EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AWARD, Michael Harano as The 2017 hawaii Association of secondary school administrators (HASSA) Distinguished principal of the year, Bruce Naguwa as the 2016 hawaii elementary and middle schools administrators association (HEMSAa) distinguished principal, Geri martin as the 2017 hawaii assistant principal of the year, Ramona Kahawaii as the 2017 hawaii school counselor of the year, and kristin silva as the 2016 secondary school counselor of the year.
WHEREAS, MAHINA ANGUAY, recipient of the 2017 Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership award, believes that as Principal, she has the responsibility to ensure that the school is preparing students for college and career success, and has implemented the STREAM program to aid students to become college, career, and community ready; and
WHEREAS, MICHAEL HARANO, Principal at Washington Middle School, is a community leader who navigated the students and staff through issues that extended far beyond the school boundaries, earning him the 2017 Hawaii Association of Secondary School Administrators (HASSA) Distinguished Principal of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, BRUCE NAGUWA, Principal at Kapolei Middle School, is the 2016 Hawaii Elementary and Middle Schools Administrators Association (HEMSAA) Distinguished Principal, and under his leadership, the school's Strive HI index score has risen to the upper 25 percent of middle level schools; and
WHEREAS, GERI MARTIN, Vice Principal at Ewa Makai Middle School, is the Hawaii 2017 Assistant Principal of the Year, as recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, due to her dedication to personal excellence, collaborative leadership, personalization of curriculum, instruction, and assessment skills; and
WHEREAS, RAMONA KAHAWAII, Kapunahala Elementary School counselor and the 2017 Hawaii School Counselor of the Year, has encouraged and facilitated the success of her students by strengthening their academic, career, and social development; and
WHEREAS, KRISTIN SILVA, Washington Middle School outreach counselor and the 2016 Secondary School Counselor of the Year, has been a school counselor for sixteen years and attributes her success to her students and fellow teachers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2017, that this body hereby commends, congratulates, and honors Mahina Anguay, Michael Harano, Bruce Naguwa, Geri Martin, Ramona Kahawaii, and Kristin Silva for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends to all of them its sincere mahalo and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
