HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the hawaii tourism authority to convene a global artificial intelligence summit in 2020.
WHEREAS, artificial intelligence is on track to be one of history's most impactful scientific advances; and
WHEREAS, artificial intelligence is intelligence demonstrated by machine, wherein machines mimic human cognitive functions like learning and problem solving; and
WHEREAS, the benefits of artificial intelligence currently outweigh its costs; and
WHEREAS, advances in science are being used to benefit fields as diverse as trucking, medical diagnosis, and finance; and
WHEREAS, however, many experts warn of the dangers associated with artificial intelligence, such as autonomous weapons, social manipulation, and invasion of personal privacy; and
WHEREAS, the United States and other global nations should examine the best ways to integrate and approach artificial intelligence to leverage its advantages and prepare against potential harm; and
WHEREAS, due to its central Pacific location and close proximity to Asia, Hawaii is an ideal place to host a global summit on artificial intelligence; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, the Senate concurring, that the Hawaii Tourism Authority is requested to convene a global artificial intelligence summit to be held in 2020; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the purpose of the summit shall be to gather experts from around the world to discuss innovations in artificial intelligence technologies and share and develop practical applications for artificial intelligence technologies; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
