A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR BIG ISLAND JUVENILE INTAKE AND ASSESSMENT CENTER.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to provide start-up funding for a pilot site for a juvenile intake and assessment center in Pahoa, Hawaii, that will serve about forty youth per month over the next two years, with future sites proposed for Naalehu, Waimea, Kailua, and Hilo on the island of Hawaii.  The center will provide a single point of entry for intake, assessment, and case management of delinquent and at-risk youth.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1,600,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2009-2010 as a grant-in-aid for the county of Hawaii to fund the juvenile intake and assessment center pilot site in Pahoa, Hawaii.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the county of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2009.
