A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

rELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 286, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§286-     Reverse sensors required for new motor vehicles.  (a)  Any new motor vehicle sold or offered for sale in the State shall be equipped with a reverse sensor; provided that this section shall not apply to motorcycles.

     (b)  For purposes of this section, "reverse sensor" means a device that detects the proximity of an object from the device and sends a corresponding audible or visual signal to alert the driver of a motor vehicle of an object's proximity to the device when the vehicle is moving in reverse."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2012.
