A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to medicine.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  By no later than July 1, 2012, the Hawaii medical board shall adopt, amend, or repeal rules, pursuant to chapter 91, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to require physician clinical practitioners to complete twelve hours of continuing medical education on palliative care every four years in order to maintain licensure.  This requirement shall become effective on January 1, 2013, and not apply to non-clinical physicians.

     For the purposes of this Act, "non-clinical physicians" includes but is not limited to:

     (1)  Medical examiners;

     (2)  Nuclear medicine doctors;

     (3)  Pathologists;

     (4)  Podiatrists;

     (5)  Public health physicians;

     (6)  Sports medicine physicians; and

     (7)  Physicians performing strictly administrative functions.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
