A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO THE ENVIRONMENT.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a)  The university of Hawaii water resources research center, in cooperation and consultation with the department of health, shall conduct a comprehensive statewide study of sewage contamination in nearshore marine areas.

     (b)  The university of Hawaii water resources research center and the department of health shall submit a report of their findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2020.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2018-2019 for the university of Hawaii water resources research center, in cooperation and consultation with the department of health, to conduct a comprehensive statewide study of sewage contamination in nearshore marine areas.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the university of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on January 28, 2045.
