A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to education.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-    School year; working days; instructional time.  (a)  Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, the school year shall consist of not less than one hundred eighty instructional days.

     (b)  Each instructional day shall consist of not less than five and a half hours of instruction.

     (c)  This section shall apply to all elementary, middle or intermediate, and high schools, including charter schools, beginning with the 2010-2011 school year."

     SECTION 2.  This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun before its effective date.


     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2010.
