A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to child protection.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 587A-10, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:
"[[]§587A-10[]]
Relatives; foster placement. (a) The department shall provide the child's
relative an application to be the child's resource family within fifteen days
of the relative's request to provide foster placement for the child. If the
application is submitted and denied, the department shall provide the applicant
with the specific reasons for the denial and an explanation of the procedures
for an administrative appeal.
(b) The department and authorized agencies shall make reasonable efforts to identify and notify all relatives of the child within thirty days after assuming foster custody of the child.
(c) Following the placement of a child with a resource family, the department shall visit the child at the resource family home at least once per month until:
(1) The child's adoption is finalized;
(2) The child's legal guardianship is finalized;
(3) The child reaches eighteen years of age; or
(4) As otherwise ordered by the court."
SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
