A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO PEARL HARBOR REMEMBRANCE DAY.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 8, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§8-    Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.  (a)  December 7 of each year shall be known as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, in recognition of the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

     (b)  Teachers in the State shall be encouraged to observe Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day with appropriate exercises and lessons.  Residents of the State shall be encouraged to solemnly contemplate the lives lost and sacrifices of service members during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

     (c)  All state agencies and political subdivisions of the State shall fly the United States flag at half-mast each December 7 in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

     (d)  This day is not and shall not be construed to be a state holiday."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on June 15, 2215.
