A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  This Act is recommended by the governor for immediate passage in accordance with article VII, section 9, of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii.

     SECTION 2.  The State is involved in major litigation that could result in costly judgments against the State if not vigorously defended.  These lawsuits will require the State to retain expert witnesses and expert counsel.

     SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2021-2022 to be used by the department of the attorney general in major litigation involving the State.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of the attorney general for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2222.
