A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to first responders.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 321, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part XVIII to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§321-     First responder personnel; mandates; counties; shared cost.  Pursuant to article VIII, section 5, of the Hawaii State Constitution, if the legislature mandates any new program or increase in the level of service under an existing program by first responder personnel employed by the counties, including but not limited to enhanced requirements for enforcement or mandatory increased support, the legislature shall also provide funding for the State's share of the cost of fulfilling the mandate."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
