A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to schools.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part II, subpart C, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-     Farm study.  The department shall arrange for interested schools, classes, or students to work, volunteer, or study on a farm located within the regional administrative district of the interested school, class, or student.  The arrangement may accommodate a school or class project, provide student volunteer opportunities or school credit, or fulfill a public service requirement."

     SECTION 2.  Section 302A-404, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

     "§302A-404  School meals[.]; agricultural products.  (a)  School meals shall be made available under the school meals program in every school where the students are required to eat meals at school.

     (b)  Each school with a school meals program in a regional administrative district may serve agricultural products from a farm at least once each week; provided that:

     (1)  The farm is located within that regional administrative district; and

     (2)  The agricultural products are purchased from that farm."

     SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
