A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to trees.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 107, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§107-     Trees; state land; public improvements.  (a)  The department of accounting and general services shall require that for all public improvement projects undertaken on state land, three new trees shall be planted whenever an existing tree is cut down.

     (b)  The department may adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 to implement this section."

     SECTION 2.  Chapter 171, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§171-     Trees; public land; public improvements.  (a)  The department shall require that for all projects undertaken on public land, three new trees shall be planted whenever an existing tree is cut down.

     (b)  The department may adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 to implement this section."

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
