A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Inez Wilder Wheeler Ellis on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Inez Wilder Wheeler Ellis was born on March 21, 1912, in Fort Valley, Georgia, the beloved daughter of Seaborn E. and Lillian Hartley Wilder; and

WHEREAS, she relocated to Perry in 1983, but spent most of her adult life in Fort Valley; and

WHEREAS, she was united in marriage to the late D.W. Wheeler and the late A.E. Ellis; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Ellis is blessed with one remarkable daughter, Sara Wheeler Horton, four wonderful grandchildren, seven adored great-great-grandchildren, and 11 loving great-great-great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, she worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company for 35½ years before retiring, co-owned "The Wheel," a restaurant in Fort Valley, and worked for the Bank of Fort Valley; and

WHEREAS, she was honored by the Fort Valley American Legion by laying the wreath at the dedication of the new veterans monument in 2009; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Ellis was an active and devoted member of the Perry United Methodist Church where she was in the joy choir, attended Susannah Wesley Sunday School classes, and enjoyed taking trips with the church; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Ellis possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, by the example Ms. Ellis has made of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that she be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of her life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Ms. Inez Wilder Wheeler Ellis for her unselfish, dedicated, and loving service to the members of her family and the citizens of her community and state, congratulate her on the remarkable occasion of her 100th birthday, and extend their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Inez Wilder Wheeler Ellis.
