RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Chef Jeanie Newton and the Culinary Arts Program at Hutchings
Career Center; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Chef Newton earned her education with an associate of arts degree in culinary
arts with a concentration in baking and pastry from The Art Institute of
Atlanta, where she received many honors, including the Student Success Award,
Outstanding Contributions to the Department Award, and an Academic Excellence
Award; and
WHEREAS,
she currently holds CPC and MBBQ certifications and is a certified ServSafe
instructor and proctor; and
WHEREAS,
Chef Newton is active in the community and has been honored with the Lamar
County Head Start Volunteer of the Year in 1994, the Volunteer of the Year Award
from Woodmen of the World in 1996, Lamar County Volunteer of the Year in 1998,
the Partners in Education Award from Lamar County Special Education Department
in 2001, the Community Action Award from Lamar County Fire and Rescue in 2002,
and the 13 WMAZ Straight From the Heart Award in 2005; and
WHEREAS,
Chef Newton created the Sharing Hearts Club to assist needy children and
families in Lamar County and joined Hutchings Career Center in 2008, where she
started the Culinary Arts Program; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her contributions to the education and welfare of people in
this state and her community, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body
to honor the extraordinary accomplishments and academic achievements of this
outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily
commend the Culinary Arts Program at Hutchings Career Center and Chef Jeanie
Newton on the many contributions they have made to the students, community, and
State of Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chef Jeanie Newton.
