A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the 2009 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the 2009 Georgia Institute of Technology football team completed an incredible season and captured the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship outright for the first time since 1990; and

WHEREAS, with an 11-2 record, the Yellow Jackets completed the regular season ranked in the top 10 nationally; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Tech football team earned an invitation to the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl, which was their 13th consecutive bowl berth, first major bowl game since 1967, and first ever BCS appearance; and

WHEREAS, the Yellow Jackets' dedicated head coach, Paul Johnson, was named the ACC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and junior defensive end Derrick Morgan was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Morgan was also named a first team All-American and six of his teammates were named first team All-ACC; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper that they be appropriately recognized as champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the 2009 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team on their excellent 2009 season and extend their sincere best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Paul Johnson.
