A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. George L. Rose; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. George L. Rose has an established reputation for athletic achievement and is considered one of this state's greatest running backs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rose graduated in 1959 from Glynn Academy High School in Brunswick, Georgia, where his football performance and athletic ability earned him the title of MVP, All Conference, All State, and All Southern his junior and senior years; and

WHEREAS, as a rusher for Glynn Academy, Mr. Rose averaged 7.5 yards per carry for three years and earned a high school career total of 2,800 yards, which helped place him in the Glynn Academy Hall of Fame and resulted in the retirement of his number from the school's roster; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rose continued to amaze his fans while he attended college at Auburn University, lettering in 1961, 1962, and 1963 as two-way performer, defensive halfback, and offensive wingback; and

WHEREAS, during his time on the field with the Tigers, Mr. Rose was recognized with honors such as the Outstanding Player OAK Award, the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award, Auburn's All Decade Team, and an All American UPI/API honorable mention, with performances in the Orange Bowl, the Senior Bowl, and the College All Star Game; and

WHEREAS, during Mr. Rose's career in the NFL he played for the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, and San Francisco 49ers; and

WHEREAS, before his retirement in 1969, Mr. Rose led the Vikings in kick-off returns and interceptions, and he was selected to the All NFL Rookie Team; and
WHEREAS, after retirement Mr. Rose continued to contribute to football, coaching for Eastern Carolina University and his alma maters, Glynn Academy and Auburn University; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rose's incredible football career and his many achievements will be honored with his induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. George L. Rose for his years of hard work and perseverance in football, thank him for his selfless dedication to the youth of this nation, and congratulate him on his induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. George L. Rose.
