A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel Association on Tourism Day
at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel Association was founded in 1976 to
promote the unique attractions of the Northeast Mountains region of Georgia to
America at the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter in Washington, D.C., in
January, 1977; and
WHEREAS,
the founders realized the importance of encouraging tourism related businesses
throughout the region to communicate their successes, their goals, and their
needs to like-minded businesses not only throughout the region but to the State
of Georgia as a whole; and
WHEREAS,
the founders and early leaders of the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel
Association assisted the State of Georgia's Tourism Division to build regional
travel associations as a state-wide network throughout Georgia to strengthen
tourism; and
WHEREAS,
the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel Association formed partnerships with the
predecessor of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (the Georgia
Department of Industry, Trade, and Tourism) to strengthen Georgia tourism as one
of Georgia's top industries; and
WHEREAS,
the region served by the association is composed of the following counties:
Banks, Barrow, Dawson, Elbert, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart,
Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White;
and
WHEREAS,
the association has in the past and continues to partner with other travel
regions in tourism marketing and promotional efforts benefiting those regions as
well as the entire State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, in the past 35 years, the association has fully supported the efforts of the Georgia Tourism Division, created and sponsored educational programs such as Winter Chautauqua, attended numerous trade and travel shows, developed co-operative advertising programs for the region, and shared tourism resources and initiatives with other travel regions, the corporate sector, and local, regional, and state government to attract a wide range of visitors; and
WHEREAS, in the past 35 years, the association has fully supported the efforts of the Georgia Tourism Division, created and sponsored educational programs such as Winter Chautauqua, attended numerous trade and travel shows, developed co-operative advertising programs for the region, and shared tourism resources and initiatives with other travel regions, the corporate sector, and local, regional, and state government to attract a wide range of visitors; and
WHEREAS,
these efforts have created and sustained jobs, created investment in businesses,
and generated economic growth for the Northeast Georgia Mountains.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel Association for its vision, its
dedication to the promotion of tourism, and its assistance in helping tourism
businesses throughout the northeast Georgia mountains region to develop and
prosper.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Northeast Georgia
Mountains Travel Association.
