A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Senior Trooper Mark Bracewell; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Senior Trooper Mark Bracewell is highly regarded by the citizens of his
community and state and by local government officials as a person of
unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law
enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
Senior Trooper Bracewell has been recognized with the Peace Officer of the Year
for Valor Award from the Georgia State Patrol for his heroic and life-saving
actions; and
WHEREAS,
on October 11, 2009, Senior Trooper Bracewell demonstrated great courage as he
placed his own safety on the line as he responded to a serious traffic accident
in which a driver and passenger were trapped in a burning vehicle;
and
WHEREAS,
Senior Trooper Bracewell approached the burning vehicle and determined the
driver's foot to be pinned beneath the brake pedal; and
WHEREAS,
with quick thinking and focus, Senior Trooper Bracewell remained calm and
retrieved two fire extinguishers which he used to abate the growing flames from
the vehicle; and
WHEREAS,
after unsuccessful attempts to pry the driver's foot from beneath the pedal,
Senior Trooper Bracewell was able to pull the driver partially from the vehicle
and leave only his right leg remaining inside the burning car; and
WHEREAS,
Senior Trooper Bracewell placed a firefighter's jacket over the driver to
protect him from the flames until the fire department could completely extract
him from the vehicle; and
WHEREAS, although the driver received serious burns, the efforts of Senior Trooper Bracewell undoubtedly saved the man's life, and a precious life was spared; and

WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their
gratitude for the unique and often unheralded contributions of Senior Trooper
Bracewell and all local law enforcement officers on behalf of the citizens of
this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the care, courage, and selfless dedication exhibited by Senior Trooper Mark
Bracewell in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation and congratulate
him on earning the Peace Officer of the Year for Valor Award from the Peace
Officers Association of Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Senior Trooper Mark
Bracewell.
