RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Walker T. Norman for his outstanding public service; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Walker T. Norman was born on September 19, 1954, in Lincolnton, Georgia, to
Edith Remsen Norman and James Allen Norman; and
WHEREAS,
this dedicated public servant was introduced to public office in 1973 with his
election to the Lincolnton City Council at the amazing age of 18;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Norman has committed 24 years to the position of Chairman of the Lincoln
County Board of Commissioners, serving 16 years after his election in 1980, and
then eight more, with his 2000 election; and
WHEREAS,
his efforts have been instrumental in a number of Lincoln County improvement
projects, including the erection of the county's first library, the expansion of
the county's water system to unincorporated areas, the production of a new
county gymnasium, and the building of The Lincoln Center, the Law Enforcement
Center, the Health Department, and the Public Safety Office; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Norman has provided leadership and guidance with his involvement in numerous
associations, including the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training
Council, the Workforce Development Board for the East Central Georgia Region,
and the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Norman was united in love and marriage to Carol Tankersley in 1978, and the
two have been blessed with one son, James Blanchard; and
WHEREAS,
it is fitting that this body express its appreciation to Mr. Norman for the
great credit he reflects on his community and the
state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body joins in commending Mr. Walker T. Norman for his outstanding service and his many important contributions to Lincoln County and the State of Georgia.
