RESOLUTION
Commending
the emergency medical services professionals of Georgia and recognizing
Wednesday, February 16, 2011, as "Emergency Medical Services Recognition Day";
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the emergency medical services (EMS) professionals of Georgia respond to almost
one million calls for assistance annually, risking their lives on a daily basis
to go to the aid of those in need; and
WHEREAS,
in the State of Georgia, there are over 14,000 emergency medical services
personnel that provide the essential lifesaving services associated with
out-of-hospital emergency medical care; and
WHEREAS,
the goals and services of each of these individuals include illness and injury
prevention; trauma system development; public information and education; the
prompt, efficient, and effective delivery of prehospital emergency medical care;
transportation to the most appropriate receiving facility; and other activities
related to the health and well-being of the citizens of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
emergency medical services personnel provide access to quality prehospital
emergency care that dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of
persons stricken with sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia's emergency medical services system is celebrating its 38th year of
service in 2011; and
WHEREAS,
Wednesday, February 16, 2011, is "Emergency Medical Services Recognition Day" in
Georgia, and it is fitting and proper that the emergency medical services
professionals of Georgia be recognized for their outstanding and courageous
service.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the emergency medical services professionals of Georgia for their outstanding
service to this state and recognize Wednesday, February 16, 2011, as "Emergency
Medical Services Recognition Day" at the state capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Courtney Terwilliger,
chairman of the Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services, and Keith
Wages, director of the Georgia Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma
of the Department of Community Health, Division of Emergency Preparedness and
Response.
