A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Vikki Howell on the occasion of her retirement; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Vikki Howell has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that she has played in the teaching profession and her deep personal
commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Vikki Howell is a native of Buena Vista, Georgia, and attended Marion County
High School; and
WHEREAS,
she received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Georgia
Southwestern University in 1973 and her Master of Arts in curriculum from
Central Michigan in 2002; and
WHEREAS,
she began her teaching career at Haynie Elementary School teaching fourth,
fifth, and sixth grades from 1978 to 1999, during which time she served as the
Charter Beta Club Sponsor; and
WHEREAS,
she taught Georgia History and Language Arts at Lovejoy Middle School from 1999
to 2006, during which time she received her Teacher Support Specialist
endorsement mentoring both student teachers and TAPP teachers; and
WHEREAS,
she was an Early Intervention Program teacher for her first five years at
Kilpatrick Elementary School and taught fifth grade her last year until retiring
from teaching in January of 2012; and
WHEREAS,
she is united in love and marriage to her husband of 37 years, George, and
blessed with two remarkable children, Jon and Hayley, and one adored
granddaughter, Georgia Elizabeth;
and
WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Howell is an active member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro; and
WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Howell is an active member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro; and
WHEREAS,
she serves her community as a board member for Waterpointe Subdivision and a
secretary for Alpha Phi Alpha Delta Kappa; and
WHEREAS,
Vikki Howell has dedicated an amazing 34 years molding young minds and
challenging students to achieve their utmost potential through her work in the
field of education; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is
abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily
and gratefully commend Vikki Howell for her 34 years of sacrifice, foresight,
accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and
recognize the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of
countless young people in this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Vikki Howell.
