A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a public service organization founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 visionary women at Howard University in order to provide services and programs that promote human welfare; and

WHEREAS, the founders' vision has crystallized to encompass a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominantly black college educated women, representing over 900 chapters in the United States, England, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea; and

WHEREAS, the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was chartered on March 9, 1997, in Stone Mountain, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, since its chartering, the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter has implemented a variety of programs and services that positively impact its community under the Sorority's Five Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement; and

WHEREAS, the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter is celebrating its 11th annual Debutante Cotillion in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 27, 2010, by introducing academically, socially, and culturally prepared young ladies into society; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., on its many accomplishments and recognize the exemplary service its members provide to their communities and this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
