A RESOLUTION


Commending the 2010 Senate interns for their exemplary service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Georgia Legislative Internship Program was founded in 1969 and is one of the nation's oldest educational internships to focus on the state legislative process; and

WHEREAS, the internship program is a cooperative venture between the Georgia General Assembly and 15 of the four-year public and private colleges and universities in Georgia and it provides a select group of students with in-depth exposure to the House and the Senate by assigning them to assist key standing committees and legislative leaders; and

WHEREAS, the 17 students who were selected to participate in the Senate intern program represent some of the best and the brightest college students in this state who share a genuine interest in the lawmaking process and a potential commitment to public service; and

WHEREAS, the unique experience of participating in the legislative internship program has undoubtedly enriched the academic study these college students have completed; and

WHEREAS, the members of the standing committees and legislative leaders who benefited from the service of these interns commend their coordinators Dr. Bill Thomas of Georgia State University and Stacy Peery and salute each of these students on a job well done: Imran Ali, Nivek Anderson, Jason Brooks, Ashley Byl, Nikki Carlson, Cobern Epting, Joel Graham, Amie Hobb, Jonathan Jay, Laura Keen, Lavinia Luca, Elvira Malikic, Kat Middleton, Jade Sands, Emily Tomberlin, Tony West, and Kaitlyn Whiteside; and

WHEREAS, these distinguished students' hard work and dedication have been enormous assets to the citizens of Georgia, and all the members of the General Assembly greatly appreciate the invaluable service of interns who enable their business to run smoothly and successfully.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Senate interns for the 2010 regular session on their superb performance and convey their best wishes to each of them for success and happiness in their future pursuits.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the 2010 Senate interns.
