A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Vickey Holcombe on the occasion of her retirement; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Vickey Holcombe has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that she has played in the teaching profession and her deep
personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Holcombe attended Flordia's Gulf Coast Community College, then Georgia
College on a gymnastics scholarship, and earned a bachelor's degree in physical
education with a minor in mathematics from Florida State University and a
master's degree in mathematics from Georgia State University; and
WHEREAS,
this highly respected educator and administrator began her career in 1982 as a
mathematics and physical education teacher at North Clayton High School and
during her years of dedicated service to education she has also taught at
Riverdale High School, Kilpatrick Elementary School, and Eddie White Academy;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Holcombe has coached basketball, girls t-ball, and softball over the years
and while at Kilpatrick Elementary School she coordinated the annual Hoops for
Angels and Jump Rope for Heart fundraisers; and
WHEREAS,
she has been united in love and marriage to Henry for 26 years and is blessed
with two remarkable children, Ashley and Justin, two wonderful stepchildren,
Chad and Kelly, and four adored grandchildren, Courtney, Charlie, Jay, and
Macie; and
WHEREAS,
nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young
people, and Ms. Holcombe has, during her career in education, exemplified the
selfless dedication and professionalism which are characteristic of our finest
educators; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is
abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily
and gratefully commend Ms. Vickey Holcombe for her sacrifice, foresight,
accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia, recognize
the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young
people in this state, and congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her
retirement.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Vickey Holcombe.
