A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Emmitt Wilson Henley, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Emmitt Wilson Henley, Jr., on June 7, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Henley was born on July 29, 1944, a beloved brother of Ronnie and Elizabeth and adored nephew of Annie Lou Henley; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the Locust Grove City Council for over 23 years, Georgia Power for 31 1/2 years, and Bunn Grading for 14 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Henley was a member of the Locust Grove Day Committee and was named Citizen of the Year in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Henley was united in love and marriage to his wife, Linda, and they were blessed with two remarkable sons, Mark and Tommy, and a wonderful granddaughter, Sara Ann; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, the Locust Grove Public Works Facility will be renamed the Henley-Carter Public Works Facility in honor of Mr. Henley and former Councilman W.L. Carter; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Henley will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal brother, nephew, husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Emmitt Wilson Henley, Jr., and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Emmitt Wilson Henley, Jr.
