A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dean Scott Angle of the University of Georgia's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the deans of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences have long been recognized as important leaders in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, these champions of agriculture have preserved the land-grant mission of teaching, researching, and extending knowledge for the last nine generations of Georgians; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Scott Angle was selected as Dean and Director of the college on August 15, 2005, from a national pool of applicants; and

WHEREAS, a former Fulbright Scholar and a nationally recognized soil scientist, Dr. Angle is the author of over 350 scientific papers in the field of soil microbiology and biochemistry; and

WHEREAS, the Maryland native earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in soil microbiology from the University of Maryland, his doctorate from the University of
Missouri, and during his distinguished career has been recognized as a fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Dean Angle, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences now exceeds all other colleges at the University of Georgia in extramural funding; and

WHEREAS, Dean Angle's vision and passion for education has led to the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences achieving the highest student enrollment ever in
2008; and
WHEREAS, Georgia Trend magazine annually evaluates the contributions of leaders in business, government, and academia, highlighting a list of the 100 most influential Georgians; and

WHEREAS, in just three short years, Dean Scott Angle has developed a reputation of integrity, vision, and service which has earned him the honor and distinction of being named as one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Dean Scott Angle for his contributions and achievements as Dean and Director of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and congratulate him on his inclusion in Georgia Trend's 2009 list of 100 Most Influential Georgians.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dean Scott Angle.
