A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Ovis Stephens; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Ovis Stephens has long been recognized for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her dedication to the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Stephens was a member and past president of the Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as president of the Georgia Association of Superior Court Clerks; and

WHEREAS, she has been honored numerous times, including with the Stetson F. Bennett Award for Superior Court Clerk of the Year in 1988, the second ever Distinguished Service Award at the Chamber of Commerce annual banquet in 2008, and the Citizenship Award by the Crisp Chamber of Commerce in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Stephens was united in love and marriage to the late J.C. Stephens, and from this union, they were blessed with two remarkable daughters, Jeanie Stephens Rogers and Joyce Stephens Sinyard, and two grandsons; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Stephens has been an active member of Third Street Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia, since 1940; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Stephens is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and the State of Georgia is honored to have such a motivated and hard-working individual as one of its citizens; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Ms. Ovis Stephens for her decades of selfless service to her community and the State of Georgia and extend to her best wishes for her near and distant future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Ovis Stephens.
