RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Bruce Yawn upon the occasion of his retirement and the closing of Snooky's
Restaurant; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Bruce Yawn graduated from the University of Georgia in 1969 where he played
on the Bulldogs offensive line for Coach Vince Dooley and became an Academic
All-American; and
WHEREAS,
he returned to his hometown of Statesboro after graduation and opened Snooky's
Restaurant in 1971 with his father, the namesake of the restaurant;
and
WHEREAS,
Snooky's Restaurant has served thousands of loyal customers, from long-time area
residents to Georgia Southern students, over the past 41 years; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Yawn and Snooky's played a vital role in bringing collegiate football back
to Georgia Southern College in 1981 and in bringing Erk Russell to Statesboro to
coach the Eagles; and
WHEREAS,
Snooky's served as a permanent meeting place for Coach Russell and his so-called
"Snook Pac" throughout the years; and
WHEREAS,
Snooky's and Mr. Yawn have been host for state and national leaders over the
years, from Jimmy Carter to Governor Nathan Deal, as well as famous guests,
including Zell Miller, Vince Dooley, and Vince Gill; and
WHEREAS,
he has been a servant leader in the Statesboro-Bullock County community for
decades and has received numerous honors, including the Statesboro-Bulloch
Chamber's Business Leader of the Year Award, the
Statesboro
Herald Humanitarian of the Year Award, and
the Small Business of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, he is a member of First United Methodist
Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years; and
WHEREAS,
Snooky's Restaurant served its last meal to loyal customers on February 18,
2012; and
WHEREAS,
he is united in love and marriage to his wife of 42 years, Carol, and blessed
with three remarkable children and nine wonderful grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS,
upon his retirement, Mr. Yawn looks forward to spending more time with his
family.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Bruce Yawn for his years of service with Snooky's Restaurant and his
dedicated service to his family and community, congratulate him upon the
occasion of his retirement, and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for
continued health and happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Bruce Yawn.
