BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Code Section 43-11-46.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated,
relating to continuing education requirement and waiver, so as to provide waiver
of certain continuing education hours; to provide for related matters; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Code
Section 43-11-46.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to
continuing education requirement and waiver, is amended by revising said Code
section as follows:
"43-11-46.1.
(a)
The board shall be authorized to require persons seeking renewal of a dental
license under this chapter to complete board approved continuing education of
not less than 40 hours biennially. The board shall be authorized to approve
courses offered by institutions of higher learning, specialty societies, or
professional organizations and to designate the number of hours required and the
category in which those hours should be earned.
(b)
The board shall be authorized to waive the continuing education requirement in
cases of hardship, disability, or illness or under such other circumstances as
the board deems appropriate.
(c)
The board shall be authorized to waive five hours of continuing education
requirements for persons who have completed 20 hours of volunteer practice for
public agencies or institutions, not for profit agencies, not for profit
institutions, nonprofit corporations, or not for profit associations which
provide dentistry services only to indigent patients as determined by the board
for approval of such waiver.
(c)(d)
The board shall be authorized to promulgate rules and regulations to implement
and ensure compliance with the requirements of this Code section.
(d)(e)
This Code section shall apply to each licensing, certification, and renewal
cycle which begins after the 1990-1991 renewal.
Subsection (c)
of this Code section shall apply to each licensing, certification, and renewal
cycle which begins after the 2008-2009
renewal."
SECTION
2
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
