RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Whitfield R. Forrester; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Whitfield R. Forrester has long been recognized by the citizens of this
state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his superlative service to young men with the Boy
Scouts of America program; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Forrester has been recognized for his leadership and service by the Chehaw
Council of the Boy Scouts of America with a Distinguished Citizen Award;
and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Army, valiantly and courageously defending his fellow Americans in the
European Theater during World War II; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Cordele High School, Mr. Forrester earned a bachelor's degree from
North Georgia College and a law degree from the University of Georgia, where he
was a member of Phi Delta Phi Honor Fraternity and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Forrester was appointed to the Superior Court of the Cordele Judicial
Circuit in 1980, a position he retained until 2004, making him the longest
serving superior judge in the Cordele Judicial Circuit; and
WHEREAS,
this community leader has served as president of the Cordele Lions Club, on the
Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia, president of the Cordele
Judicial Circuit Bar Association, president of the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of
Commerce, chairman of the board of directors for First State Bank & Trust
Company, and chairman of the Jekyll Island State Park Authority;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Forrester is united in love and marriage to Doris McDowell Forrester and has
been blessed with three beautiful daughters, Elizabeth E. Forrester, Margaret
Lynn Lawrence, and Andrea Leigh Bickhaus; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Whitfield R. Forrester for his efficient, effective,
unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and the Boy
Scouts of America program and congratulate him on his receipt of a Distinguished
Citizen Award.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Whitfield
R. Forrester.
