A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mrs. Ila W. King on the occasion of her retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ila W. King has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in the teaching profession and her deep personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. King has dedicated an amazing 35 years molding young minds and challenging students through her work in the field of education; and

WHEREAS, she earned an associate's degree from Florida College, a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of South Florida, and a master's degree in educational leadership from Troy State University; and

WHEREAS, this highly respected educator and administrator began her career in 1974 as a sixth grade teacher at Macon County Junior High School, and during her years of dedicated service to education she has taught at Ideal Elementary School, Morgan Township School, Macon County Primary School, West Clayton Elementary School, Berkeley Middle School, Macon County Elementary School, and Brewer Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Knight will be retiring from her position as principal of Summerville Elementary School, where she has devoted six years; and

WHEREAS, an active member of her community, Mrs. Knight has served as president of the Macon County Pilot Club and the Macon County Friends of the Library and is an active volunteer with the Macon County 4-H program, founding the state's first 4-H llama club with her husband in 2000; and

WHEREAS, nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young people, and Mrs. Knight has, during her career in education, exemplified the selfless dedication and professionalism which are characteristic of our finest educators; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mrs. Ila W. King for her over three decades of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia, recognize the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state, and congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Ila W. King.
